acontractionofAllHallowsEve,orAllSaint'sDay(November1),whichisaCatholicdayofobservanceinhonorofsaints.
ThistraditionwaslaterbroughttotheNorthAmericancontinentbyIrishimmigrantswhowereescapingthePotato
tiontothefestivalitself,theimmigrantsbroughtseveralcustomswiththem,includingone
ofthesymbolsmostcommonlyassociatedwithHalloween--theJack'OLantern.
